Ed Selego #2.
MIA.
Ed 50-50'd a big rail in Mosaic while a new J. Mascis tune played.
Jerry Hsu broke up with enjoi. Where could he end up next? 3D? P. Rod's new joint? Girl probably has a little salary cap room with Brian Anderson and Alex Olson gone now.
Mike O'Meally was the photographer.

Danny Renaud #2.
"You know what I like about Habitat, Alien, Seek and all the DNA companies? They never felt they had to move the company to California to compete. They just made all their brands amazing with great videos, the best riders and quality products. Their attitude of "we won't let anyone else dictate what we're doing" comes across in everything they do. Everyone on the team kills it, as we all know, but instead of singling anyone out (Danny Garcia, Freddy Gall, Kerry Getz, Danny Renaud, Tim O'Connor, Wenning, Janowski, etc.), I'd rather point out my favorite overall elements of this video: spot selection, the spills and the lines. Now that I opened NJ Skateshop, I watch far too many videos repeatedly to pass the time, and every spot seems to mesh into the next one, and that didn't happen with Mosaic. I was constantly asking Freddy where spots were, like a little kid. Usually I could care less because why do I need to know where a 20-stair rail is? I also liked how they threw in random slams and spills into people's parts and didn't separate it into a "slam section." It reminded me that these guys are human and eat shit just like us. Most importantly, there are lines for days. You remember lines, right? It's when someone does more than one trick in a row and actually demonstrates how they skate rather than hitting a rail, landing it and jumping off after hitting a patch of dirt. All I'm saying is - I don't even know what I'm saying. I like Habitat, and this video made me feel like I was 12 again, and there's not many things in this world that have that kind of power anymore." - Chris Nieratko
Time for a quick look back at Habitat's Mosaic. It's one of my favorite videos ever.
Habitat released their first video in 2003. It featured Danny Renaud, Tim O'Connor, Brian Wenning, Kerry Getz, Stefan Janoski, Fred Gall, Danny Garcia, and Rob Pluhowski. There was also an Alien Workshop section with Danny Way, Steve Berra, Heath Kirchart, Anthony Pappalardo, Ted De Gros, Jason Dill, and Anthony Van Engelen. Most riders had full parts, but there were a few shared sections due to other videos the team was in, such as the DC Video and Emerica's This Is Skateboarding.
Ian O'Connor took the photo.

Grant Taylor #2.
"Tricks are temporary, but ripping knows no age. Little Grant Taylor is a second generation skater who can snap a frontside ollie higher than kids three times his age."
The 2011 SOTY catches a little air way back when. Grant can definitely ollie higher than darn near everybody these days.

Dylan Rieder #2.
Taking the impossible to new heights.
Dylan rode for Birdhouse, Quicksilver and Osiris a long time ago now. He's currently on Alien Workshop and just signed up to ride for Keith Hufnagel's burgeoning shoe empire.

Bryan Herman #2.
Shake Junt.
This kid used to be a doppelgänger for Andrew Reynolds before he grew up. Bryan can huck his carcass down big sets of stairs and string together endless tech lines at school yards with the best of them.
Anybody know why my one post of Brian Childers has over 600 hits now? Did something happen to him? Nothing is coming up in my stats for a traffic source beyond generic Google searches.

Paul Rodriguez.
Son of a comedian.
P-Rod flips a gap in the City Stars days. He would soon join up with Girl and drop a stair heavy flip attack in Yeah Right! Then it was on to a resurrected Plan B and Nike before recently setting sails for a new venture.
Dario Rezk was the photographer.

Mike Anderson.
Today's pros… yesterday.
Before he turned pro for Krooked and became a dad, Manderson was blasting big sets of stairs for Tony Hawk's youth oriented clothing company.
Plans for the future include a Habitat Mosaic week and a Girl Yeah Right! week since both of those flicks are ten years old now. There was a request for an early 1990s fashion week with T-Bags, Zero Sophisto, etc. That sounds like a good idea, but it might take me a little bit longer to get that together. Don't worry, it will happen.
The photo is by someone with a last name of Ragatz.

Kevin Taylor #3.
East Coast Powerhouse.
Do you know how hard it is to find a later day ad with Sal Barbier skateboarding when you don't have a lot of time?
Kids next week. No, not that movie. I think I've got a good idea and I need to see if there is enough material to work with.

Joey Pepper #2.
The Passenger.
Joey rode for Rhythm before Aesthetics and is riding for Expedition currently. He also scored a pro model shoe on Huf. Joey is into woodworking and works at 3rd Ward Wood Shop in Brooklyn.
Has anybody tried Huf's shoes?
I've been running Fallen's Patriot II model for my last three or four pairs of shoes because those are what I'm looking for in footwear. Cupsole, beefy toe area, reasonably padded all over, decent colorways.

John Igei.
John does a switch hardflip as seen in Aesthetics' Ryde Or Die. Most of the tricks that were in the company's ads were also in the video. It features full parts from Kevin Taylor, Joey Pepper, Clyde Singleton, and Rob Welsh. Sal Barbier drops a trick or two. The ams included Dustin Charlton, Tim Bruns, Jimmy Gorecki, and a couple others. Ryde Or Die was released in 2001 and was directed by Barrett Loose. It's nearly all street skating, except for a tours and demos section after the end credits. The vid has a crisp and clean feel to it, much like the ads. It has some filmed montages of various cities to round out the skateboarding. Arty, but not overly arty.
What's the deal with the new Emerica video thing? Is it going to be available in a physical format?
When you barely skateboard in the last two weeks, you notice your knees don't hurt as much when you do go skateboarding.

I don't feel Clyde gets enough credit for how well he could actually skateboard.

Rob Welsh #2.
Kickin' Aesthetics week off with the other chain smoking pro from Maine.
Aesthetics was Sal Barbier's company after Twenty Three came to an end. The team also included Clyde Singleton, Kevin Taylor, Joey Pepper, and John Igei. It lasted until the mid 2000s when Sal closed up shop and took the whole team over to Zoo York, which has to be one of the odder moves in skateboarding. Aesthetics had some clean and fresh designs for ads and graphics.
Work has been hectic as a couple people have been out and I've had to spend a lot of time fixing some machines. Hence the later update. I think things should be a little more normal the rest of the week.

Matt Mumford.
Australian for all terrain powerhouse.
Matt tended more toward street gnarliness in the 1990s before taking the traditional old man route of pools and bowls. He's ridden for a bunch of companies over the years, including Chapter 7, Invisible, Legacy, and Black Label. Matt joined up with Ben Horton's vision for Slave whenever that company started a few years ago.
I'm kind of surprised Mumford hasn't been on here yet.

Adrian Lopez.
Loser Machine.
Adrian was one of the first riders on Zero. He turned pro for them and was part of Zero's second company, Mystery. He left to do Loser Machine in 2010. Adrian also had a long run of pro model sneakers on Circa.
The new issue of Thrasher has a few interesting things, like photos of Chad Muska actually skateboarding, a Victor Fonosch sighting in Photo Graffiti, and Brandon Westgate doing an ollie up a huge gap.
