Stairway.
Dan first popped off the top step into a frontside 50-50 on the rail for a Freedumb Clothing ad in 1996. This was one of those tricks he started messing around with for fun and then figured out what all he could do with it.

So he apparently did this twice. In the first issue of ON Skateboarding, Summer 2000, he does it during a montage. He’s wearing a different shirt but it’s clearly the same spot. Stoked for both.

It's a really cool trick. From his Chrome Ball interview, Dan either lived at this house or it was down the street from where he lived. I imagine he skated this rail rather often since it was right outside his front door.
