World Industries Catalog #2.

Today you get a blurry page of stickers with three classics of early 1990s design - the Henry Sanchez two girls, the Plan B logo and the Rudy Johnson 40 oz. of Old English.

There's also the end of Liberty. This catalog is the only place I've ever seen those boards, which is an interesting contrast with how recognizable the other graphics are.

Finally, there is the first half of a 101 ad that Transworld wouldn't run with Gabriel Rodriguez trying a frontside 360 over a ledge. Tune in tomorrow to see the second half that TWS wasn't cool with.

Those bearings at the top of the sticker page got me to wondering; what happened to German and NMB bearings? Of all the bearings I've ridden of the years, those two never gave me a problem and rolled seemingly forever.

That's a good question. I had plenty of GMN bearings. It seems like bearings today last longer or more likely, I know how to take care of them better.

Maybe once the companies started having their own bearing brands that they stopped selling generic bearings.

I'm guessing it's the gabe ad with the suicide pic?

GMN and NMB cornered the skateboard bearing market for a while there in the late 80's/early 90's.

I like the removable teflon ring style bearing better than the fully encased in metal style.

Liberty... lol. Never seen any of those boards before.

My Dad worked for a company back here in Connecticut called "New Departure-Hyatt Bearings"---a General Motors company.

They produced bearings of all kind--from mere ball bearings to sophisticated ones for aircraft and cars----as well as the same size for wheels on our favorite mode of transport.

He would being me home a case of 144 of em at a shot, and those USA bearings would NEVER wear out or stop rolling fast. I would sell em to the local gang for $8.00 a set, to be a nice guy and all...lol.
