Speaking of vert, and I should have mentioned this yesterday, I caught some of whatever contest was on NBC on Saturday afternoon. Alex Perelson was dropping in on the extension and then doing a frontside 50-50 at 100 MPH as his first trick.

This was the other extreme to the bearing shields in the early 90's.
Back in the days (this sounds so ridiculous), we would watch the 'Best of 411 #2' VHS, with the Matt Reason Profile in it and then go out and ride a shitty cemetery forecourt with one bench on it. Glorious days!
