Danny Montoya.

Listen to the boulevard.

Danny has ridden for Rhythm, Listen, and currently BLVD. He has been sponsored by Duffs and Adio for footwear. Danny and Rob Gonzalez started Listen in the mid 2000s as a small board company. They eventually took the operation to Syndrome Distribution and renamed it BLVD. They are still going today with a team that includes Danny Supa, Rodrigo Peterson, Daniel Lebron, Danny Cerezini, and a few others.

Vert Is Dead will be back on Tuesday. Enjoy that Labor Day holiday if you happen to get it off from work.

Chris Ortiz took the photo and Jose Gomez did the graphic design. Note the mid 1990s trend of crediting the designer for the ad layout.

Commonwealth Stacks.

Reese's part in Nothing But The Truth is one of my favorites.

Remember when you could buy trucks without any graphics printed on them?

SK8MAFIA Kingpin.

1990s tech guy getting gnarly.

Work's been jamming with the back to school rush, hence the briefer than usual captions. I hope we survive. I haven't even had time to watch Jake Donnelly's new part and that came out a week ago. Go Buffalo.

There's an amazing tribute to Phil Shao by Mark Whiteley at the Chrome Ball Incident.

Go play in traffic.

You know what trend bugs me? Everybody just runs and throws down their boards without a proper push. I get you need to do that sometimes to get gnarly, it just looks awkward at times.

Jason Carney.

Zeus seems fitting for the tricks this guy did.

Jason was on H-Street and turned pro for Planet Earth. He started Maple with Kien Lieu in the mid 1990s. Jason runs Slappy’s Garage skateboard shop in San Diego these days.

Jay Adams.

Dogtown & Z Boys.

Legendary pro skateboarder Jay Adams passed away on Friday from a heart attack. As part of the Zephyr Skate Shop team, Jay brought a much more aggressive and surf inspired approach to skateboarding. Along with the other Z-Boys, Jay was key in taking skateboarding to pools and vertical terrain. He had his ups and downs over the years, but according to reports had turned things around in recent times.

Ron Chatman #3.

Post World Industries.

I've been meaning to get more Ron posts on here. After turning pro for World, Ron rode for a couple of different companies, including Milk with Christian Hosoi and ATM Click with the Gonz. ATM changed backers and switched to 60/40. Ron stuck around for a bit after Mark left for Real. He has worked as a teacher and is still skateboarding today.

The Chrome Ball Incident just put out a great interview with Todd Congelliere.

Mike Crum #2.

Texas tech.

Mike is from Texas. He was one of the new vert ams for Vision with Chris Gentry. They both turned pro for that company. After Vision, he rode for Prime and World Industries. He was also on DVS. Mike did a lot of street ticks on vert, such as giant nollies and pop shove-its, both regular and switch. He's got a pretty good ollie, too.

Circuit was a wheel company in the mid to late 1990s by Think. Danny Way, Tom Penny, Caine Gayle, and Daewon Song rode for them.

Orion was a company done by Tracker that had all the big names of mid 1990s street skating on the team. The brand was recently resurrected with a team of Clint Peterson, Ryan Decenzo, Pat Duffy, and Kevin Taylor.

Flip Team 1996.

Plymouth Rock.

I guess if your company is from England than a Beatles spoof is a natural thing to do. Flip started out under the name of Death Box. It was founded by Ian Deacon and Jeremy Fox. They changed the name in 1993 and took the team to the USA, where this fabulous four promptly demolished all our spots. It was probably payback for that whole Revolutionary War thing.

Props to Michael Burnett for a Burnout column featuring women skateboarders at the recent Van Doren Invitational bowl contest.

Chany Jeanguenin.

Expedition.

Chany is from Switzerland. He came to the USA to skateboard in the early 1990s with a hefty bag of tricks and not being able to speak a word of English. Luckily, everything worked out for the best. He initially rode for Real and then switched to Planet Earth and their sister company Rhythm. In the late 1990s, Chany helped start Expedition and that is still going strong these days.

Bucky Lasek #3.

Remember when skateboarding on TV was a big deal and you had to watch it? Sure doesn't feel that way today. I miss the old contest stories from Thrasher and Big Brother. The Thrasher ones were probably a little better because that was back when they still kept things vague about the partying and hi-jinx. It's nice to know all the details, but at the same time, it's better to leave a little mystery.

I recently saw Bucky and a bunch of other bowl shredders flying around in a televised contest in Maryland. I'm not positive what series it was for, other than it was definitely on NBC. Anyway, getting past my apathy, it's cool to see Bucky beating kids half his age in contests, all those years after the old Powell Peralta videos.

Cinematographer.

I picked out some different stuff for the next couple of weeks. There will be a few pros that haven't been on here before. It's mostly going to be 1996 because those mags happen to be at the top of the stacks.

Mike has been in the game a long time now, both as a pro and then as a skateboard video maker. He has ridden for ATM Click, Adrenalin, Etnies, Sheep, Pig Wheels, and a few more.

Dan Rogers.

Subsect.

Dan rode for Blockhead, Birdhouse, and probably a couple of other companies during his time as pro. He jumped down some big gaps and grinded some big rails back in the day. Dan is from Iowa.

Entity was a board company done by Gullwing. Steve Saiz was the team manager. Riders of note included Donny Barley, Rob Gonzalez, June Cate, Adrian Lopez, Paul Zitzer, and a whole bunch more.
