Stevie hit the big time in 1998 by landing spots on Chocolate and DC Shoes. He was delivering high tech street skateboarding in the plazas and schoolyards all across the country. His switch heelflips and pop shove-its are on point.

Bill does a fully clothed ollie in the streets. Circuit was a wheel company done by Think in the mid to late 1990s. Bill is currently a team manager type of person over at Dwindle and helping keep vert alive with the transition oriented Madness Skateboards.

Panama Dan Zimmerman #2.

Panamanian National.

Dan rode for Nation after Jamie Thomas reorganized the team at Toy Machine. The company was backed by Strength Magazine and offered him a chance to be pro. They were only around a couple of years. Dan does construction these days.

Josh doesn't get enough credit for his top notch music selection in assorted Foundation and Pig Wheels videos. He picked heavier noise rock bands that aren't common in such endeavors. It's a little more interesting than sticking to the usual options, although admittedly it doesn't work for everything.

Who's the Gardner fellow on Foundation? I don't remember anybody with that name on the team and browsing the net wasn't much help.

In retrospect, it was awesome how much mini ramp coverage Matt got in the late 1990s.

I watched half of the new Emerica video on Saturday before my wifi glitched out and I gave up. What I saw looked really good. I guess people hate on Emerica for some reason. I have no idea why. They are the only shoe company that consistently makes watchable videos. Period.

I've started buying random stickers again. I always order two of a design so I have one for the collection and one to potentially stick on a board. John Lucero drew up this rat for a Lance Mountain guest board on the Black Label a while back.

Bobby Puleo #11.

Bobby takes a fakie ollie over a bench and into a backwards manual down a bank. I think this ad is from when Justin Girard had split from Mad Circle and they were still sort of doing the company at Giant. They had a few other ads in this style that were buried in the back of Transworld.

"My street skating helps my vert skating more than my vert skating helps my street. For me, when I am watching street, I'm skating street and watching tricks. Ledge tricks to me are just the same as lip tricks on the coping. Except doing it on the coping of a vert ramp is easier for me. It feels more natural for me. I love seeing a new trick on street. I wait for when something happens so I can try it on vert."

Wade Burkitt #2.

"From Zero’s Thrill of it All, one of the gnarliest pole jams ever done, Wade Burkitt is an Aussie legend. When I first arrived in Oz, a friend of mine was like, “We’re gonna meet Wade.” He was out of the spotlight and had gone underground. “How are we gonna find him?” I asked. My friend said, “Be at Bondi in the morning. Wade skates alone before anyone gets there.” Sure enough, 7 AM, long hair and long sleeves, he rolls up to the park, longneck in hand - Wade Burkitt. He proceeds to rip the park up and as soon as some other skaters arrive he’s done. I get introduced and from that moment it was me and him for the four years that I lived there. I would tell other Oz skaters that I was out skating with Wade and nobody believed me because they thought he stopped skating. Wade is still out there, skating before you even put Vegemite on your toast in the morning." - Neckface

Rob "Magnethead" Collinson.

Lowcard.

Rob is one of Dan Drehobl's friends from Maine. He acquired the Magnethead nickname because things would always hit him in the head. He moved out to SF in the early 1990s. Rob started the Lowcard 'zine in 2003. He began training to be a paramedic in 2001, which led to his interest in becoming a firefighter. Presently he is a firefighter and paramedic for the San Francisco Fire Department. That's the actual fire department and not something to do with Spitfire Wheels.

Sabotage.

It's neat how DC Shoes is remodeling their image as a homage to the technical street skateboarding of the late 1990s and early 2000s that is a big part of the company's heritage. I know I can be sour on reissues, but this feels like something that occurred out of a genuine interest in the period by the younger generations. It's not the typical "Hey, this is old, let's make more of them" type of deal.

"Me and my friend Robert Torres, he lives in San Jose, we rode for Alva and even before, we'd take trips to Sacramento and skate with Randy Smith, Ricky Winsor, Troy Clower, and Doggen and they all hung out there. You know how Sacto is, they're a real influence. The street itself, like real scrub style. When we went over there, we started skating with them and getting influenced, too, because we thought it looked so rad. Ricky would do this rad slider stuff."
