Chad Muska #2.

The Muska was discovered by Thomas Campbell and company on trip to Las Vegas that was chronicled in the December 1993 issue of Transworld. Muska was soon sponsored by G & S and appeared in an ad that is too gray to scan. He moved over to Maple in the post - G & S world. By the end of 1995, he was on Toy Machine and poised to become one of the super stars of the late 1990s.

I watched the Dylan Rieder "Man Crush" video last night. That kid is on another level. I also watched his part in Mind Field before I went to bed. He was good in that, but nothing compared to the new Gravis footage. I'm not feeling the v-neck t-shirts, but that's the only thing he's doing wrong. He also does probably the biggest impossible ever. Ed Templeton must be proud.

This is at Max's ramp before the huge Gonz mural was painted on the wall. It looks so empty without it. I type that as if I'm a local there or something. I'm not even close. It's kind of crazy how you end up knowing details about skateboarders you've never met.

Justin Strubing.

Justin is an underrated all terrain shredder. He's been around for a long time and several sponsors - Santa Cruz, Adrenalin, Foundation, whatever Matt Mumford's short lived Dwindle backed company was (Legacy?) and finally back on the Dot. His park lines in the Foundation tour video The Good Times Are Killing Me are great.

Countdown to the weekend. I just discovered that there is a premium and craft beer store right by where I work. I mean I sort of knew about it already, but had never figured out exactly where it was, partly because it doesn't look like a beer store from the outside and it blended in with the other shops on the boardwalk.

Jason was back on Santa Cruz in 1994 after riding for Acme and Foundation.

Following Santa Cruz, he rode for and was the team manager for Nation. It was owned by Strength Magazine in Cincinnati. Steffan Attardo, Jake Brown, Jason King, James Riff and Panama Dan all were sponsored by Nation at one point or another.

Jahmal Williams.

Jahmal is from Boston and has ridden for Television, Toy Machine, American Dream Unit, Infamous and even the Wu-Tang Clan's short lived skateboard company. These days he's doing Hopps and making art. There's a new Hopps commercial with Jerry Fowler over at the Skateboard Mag's website.

Biebel's World is now live. I bet that would be a fun place to visit.

Brian was an am for G & S and then turned pro for Planet Earth. Besides being a smooth vert skater, he had a few street moves here and there that were showcased in Planet Earth ads. I seem to remember a nose slide down the ledge on the side of the stairs at the Brooklyn Banks.

Al is one of my favorite skaters. That's it. No sponsor history or trying to describe how good he is. Whatever I thought about typing sounded lame. Al rips.

Beer City is a company out of Milwaukee that started in 1993. In addition to making skateboards, they are a hardcore and punk record label. They sponsored some of the locals as well as Duane Peters. Beer City is still going today.

There is a very slight chance I will post Ron Knigge over the weekend. I figure you can't have a New Deal week from 1994 without Ron. I've got a good bunch of stuff planned for next week, too.

The new issue of Thrasher seems good so far. My philosophy on Thrasher is that the more Michael Burnett, Wez Lundry and Michael Sieben, the better. Nothing against any of the other writers or photographers, but I'm playing favorites here. Burnett delivers two tour stories and an interview with Leo Romero.

Smooth and stylish rider from Hawaii. I think he sort of vanished after the New Deal got rid of their pro team in the mid 1990s. I'm pretty sure that Rene is still doing skateboard related stuff back on the island.

It's been super busy at work today. I almost didn't think I'd have time to update. My boss has been showing me how to use the giant camera for shooting from paste ups along with showing me how to strip film and burn plates for printing.

I forgot to mention yesterday that this is Children Of The Sun week and will feature New Deal riders from that video.

I went to the mall yesterday. I normally won't buy anything at a mall skateshop, but as I was walking around I discovered that a Zumiez had opened. I initially thought it was another Pac Sun and that registered as odd so I had to investigate. I wound up buying the Zero Strange World video for twelve dollars. I don't feel too bad about that.

RVCA is now carried at Pac Sun. I bought two t-shirts because I need some new clothes. If I had looked at the prices, I wouldn't have bought them to begin with. I didn't realize it would be that much until the clerk rang me up and asked for forty bucks. Whoops. I feel bad about that. You get used to ordering t-shirts with the discount for three or more. I expected those numbers to carry over into the real world. I should have known better.
