Mickey rode for SMA and was the team manager at Deluxe. He was part of the thin blue line for a bit in the 1990s before going back to being the team manager at Deluxe. You don't want to mess with Mic-E.

SMA had some of the coolest ads around this time.

Ari Marcopoulos.

I figure you can't do a look back at Metropolitan without including this.

Ari is from Holland and moved to New York City in 1980. To sum it up briefly, Ari is a photographer who has taken pictures of skateboarders, snowboarders, fine artists, and more. This article was published my senior year of college and I thought it was amazing because here was somebody who was taking photos of skateboarders and also famous artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat. The layout and handwritten text are great.

I've been helping some friends clean out the house they grew up in this week. They had their old basketball hoop in the garage. I noticed that it still had two Intensity Skates stickers on the backboard that I must have put there twenty some years ago.

Jones rode for Infamous and Supreme. He's riding a Menace Joey Suriel board in the photo. His brother Chris was pro for Capital. Chris also rode for Infamous, along with Element and Zoo York.

This might have been the last ad for Metropolitan before the company was put out to pasture. Since it was only around about a year and half, just about everything they did has been scanned online already.

I'm glad I went skateboarding last night even though it was a little windy because it is raining buckets today.

Bobby has ridden for Stereo, Mad Circle, Infamous, enjoi, and Traffic over the years. I think that's all of them. Somebody got bummed I forgot Infamous the last time I did a post about him so I'll make sure they get mentioned this time around. There's a new web video of Bobby skateboarding around the less than fine parts of the Big Apple that the internet chatters have been having fun discussing lately. He definitely has his own take on things and I think that is good in the end.

Ryan had Capital and Stereo for board sponsors. I don't think I know much else about him actually.

So is there going to be a new company out of Deluxe with Jason Dill, AVE, Alex Olson, Brian Anderson and whoever else needs a board sponsor?

Metropolitan Wheels.

Metropolitan was a wheel company out of Deluxe that lasted from 1994 to 1996. A lot of the art for the ads was based on the work of photographer Ari Marcopoulos and his photos of New York City. The team included Keith Hufnagel, Bobby Puleo, Ryan Hickey, Jones Keeffe, and more NYC heads.
