Jimmy Lannon #3.

Florida's finest.

Jimmy closed out Marshall Nicholson's recent Hot Plate video with a part full of his signature snappy ollies, nollies, manuals, and switch kickflips. Hot Plate is a good Florida and beyond flick that is worth checking out.

You don't see a ton of pictures of Jimmy so when I found this ad I decided to see what else Coalatree had done. As I checked for more of their ads, I discovered they had a few of my current favs so I put together a week's worth of scans for the clothing company.

All natural backside 50-50.

Coalatree is an outdoor clothing company that dabbled in sponsoring extreme athletes back in the day. They even put together a trip or two with their team for the Skateboard Mag. Unlike many a fly by night skateboard clothing brand, they are still going today, although they don't appear to be sponsoring a skate team.

Ryan would have been riding for enjoi at the time of this ad, but soon would switch over to Welcome.

Matt takes his very loose trucks to the top of Aala Park for a Smith grind. This ad has such a great design.

Cheers.

I think this photo perfectly sums up skateboarding in the mid 1990s.

Shelby would go on to become a photographer for Thrasher. Nick founded Diamond, the bolts company that turned into a big time streetwear brand.

Santa Cruz is finally making a reissue of Bod Boyle's cat puking in the toilet graphic.

Adventure today.

Jonas rode for Black Label, Clean, Volcom, and Thunder over the years. He was Jeremy's younger brother. Sadly, he passed away recently.

Vanessa Torres.

Quit your day job.

Vanessa is from Los Angeles, California. She was sponsored by and turned pro for Element in the early 2000s. She was also sponsored by Gallaz, a short lived branch of Globe that was designed for women skateboarders. Vanessa did rather well on the X Games contest circuit. These days she rides for Meow Skateboards and Vans. She's got a proper crooked grind and a mean frontside slider. Vanessa rips.

RIP Joe Hammeke.

Brandon Turner.

Off the books.

Brandon grew up in San Diego and Japan. He was sponsored by Voice before Chad Muska asked him to ride for Shorty's. Sk8mafia has been his sponsor in the years since Shorty's stopped making decks. He was on Osiris during the halcyon days of The Storm. Brandon has had some serious struggles over the years, but fortunately has overcome them and is back to skateboarding. He's also a physical trainer and helping people who might being going through tough times in their lives. Brandon has clothing company called Gift that he does with Sammy Baptista, too. He can still throw down a proper switch hardflip.

The photo is credited to a Peril. I am not sure on a full name.

Lindsey Robertson.

Mysterious heelflip guy.

Lindsey is from Miami, Florida. He rode for Zero and made the in-house switch over to Mystery to turn pro. Heelflips were his specialty and he took the trick down some giant gaps. Lindsey had a mean frontside heelflip and also did a ridicluous gap to frontside noseslide down a handrail. He wasn't afraid to add in a street grab when floating down some big stairs or over a huge chunk of lawn. I know grabs are somewhat frowned upon, but his were so casual that they look sick. Lindsey is awesome because he skated to Ol' Dirty Bastard in Mystery's 2007 Black & White video when everybody else skated to crappy oldies.

RIP Jonas Wray.

Yeah. I want the Quiet Riot song, "Mama We're All Crazy Now". I'll probably have to have rap, though.

Bam Margera #7.

Bam's away.

Mr. Margera takes the plunge on a Volcom tour of the midwest. He would have switched over to Element from Toy Machine at roughly this time.

If your trucks are starting to wear out, will it throw your ollies off a smidge? Does riding a different urethane formula affect anything? As long as the wheel size and shape are to your liking, that shouldn't matter much, should it? I've been in the worst slump the last month and I'm trying to figure things out.

I always thought this photo was sick. It looks like Axion has been brought back from the footwear graveyard once again.

Please note the Fairman's and Toy Machine stickers on the ramp. This demo was done on Bam Margera's home turf.

Timecode Soundtrack.

This is the credits page that came with Alien Workshop's 1997 Timecode video. The parts and songs in order are:

1. Josh Kalis: KMD - Gas Face Refill

2. Thomas Morgan: Love - Stand Out

3. Mike Hayes: Gang Starr - Who's Gonna Take The Weight

4. Interlude #3: J Mascis - Alone

5. John Drake: Black Attack - Verbal Attack

6. Fred Gall: Black Sabbath - Children of the Grave

7. Rob Dyrdek: Corbix - Blasphemy

8. Workshop Interlude: J Mascis - Untitled

9. Scott Conklin: The Jetty - Untitled

10. Bo Turner: Johnny Cash - Ring Of Fire

11. Ode To Duane Pitre: The Interstate 10

12. Lennie Kirk: Times Square Church Children's Choir - Highway To Heaven

I've seen the soundtrack listed in a couple places and it's never correct, probably due to the flat out obscurity of most of the songs.

For some reason, there's a section labeled Interlude #3, which consists of a scorching J Mascis guitar piece over video of utility wires, cooking chickens, and a burning car. The intro is a silent montage of Alien Workshop images. There's a clip of Thomas Morgan getting a tattoo before his part. If you count both of those, then you arrive at Interlude #3. That's my best guess.

I like how they added the sound of lasers whenever Mike Hayes does a laser flip. Also Josh Kalis hits a couple handrails. I've always assumed that Scott and/or Duane were involved in either The Jetty and/or Interstate 10. Or it was their friends.

Tony Hawk #13.

Tony was another guy who flew the coop from Airwalk to Adio. He also stayed with them until the end. They even gave him his own line of Hawk Shoes. I had a pair of his pro model in this exact color scheme. They were all right, but not great. The soles were on the thick side and they had a weird angle to the design. It is interesting to note that Tony has basically run a variation of this sneaker for most of the 2000s. His Prototype for Lakai was more or less a similar style, minus the air bubble. Whatever works for you, I suppose.

Has anybody else noticed how Tony seems to have the least spectacular graphics on most of his boards? This has always bugged me. Why does the best skateboarder ever never get some quality art? He seems to have a good sense of taste in general on most things so this leaves me a little surprised.

Grant Brittain documented the trick.

Jeremy Wray #10.

One step above.

Jeremy left his shoe sponsor of Dukes to ride for Adio in 1998. Dukes might have come to an end when Plan B closed up shop at the same time. Unlike Jamie and Steve, he would ride for Adio for the lifespan of the company. This trick was in 2002's One Step Beyond video.

Mason Silva has clearly picked up the vibe about skating rocks that the Wray brothers helped create twenty years ago.

His brother Jonas took the photo.
