What the heck happened to Steve Claar? I know he lost a leg but I never did find out exactly how. I know that he does still skate and surf, which makes him just that much more badass.
I'd heard about him losing a leg, too. I think he had a Last Words within the last few years in TWS. He's popped up in some event party photos, too. Somebody needs to track him done for an update.
Steve Claar is my brother. He did get his leg cut off. Not in a surfing accident per say, He had a bunch of medical problems come up at once. He has a blood disorder so he had no blood flow to his leg. He's still in SD, married and has a son. His son is a little skate rat too. He is doing great!!It's great to see that people still wonder about him. He is a legend...He is in a band called Batarzan.. Check them out..
I grew up at the Tamberly Lane condos in Santee where Steve used to live. He was great. He was the local hero of me and the other skate rats. I always had a crush on his sister Cory who also lived there. She was a cutie. Fond memories of the guy. He would always give us decks, wheels, and stickers.
I had a huge crush on Steve Claar. I met him once, in 1990. He's probably the easiest person I ever met, maybe even the coolest. You could see it in the way he skated. Watch a video.
Steve is the Man !! He taught me how to stall my inverts at the Del Mar Keyhole in 1986. Then I would see him making boards for Uncle Wiggley. Years later he was doing 6ft plus frontside ollies at the Fallbrook Ramp. He is on my all time favorite skater list.
He came to Aberdeen in Scotland at this time as we had a good (proper) vert ramp, and he was REALLY good. Just solid skating, stalllllllllllled inverts.

He's playing in a band these days. He did lose his leg in a surfing accident. His leg got cut, later got infected and had to be amputated.

Best frontside ollie’s ever.

So proud of my uncle, threw me on a board at 5 years old! I love bragging about him. Also, he’s still doing great! Loved reading all of these:)
