Johnny Fonseca.

"Ollie, Benicia"

Johnny rode for Real in the mid 1990s. He was from Chicago, got hooked up with Deluxe, shredded some spots and was gone.

If Thrasher keeps putting full years worth of magazines online then all us old guys with scanners aren't going to have anything to do soon. They're up to 1985 so we've still got some time. I guess I could fall back on the few old copies of Heckler and Warp I've got sitting in the basement.

Gabe Morford snapped the photo.

I've been watching some of the Thrasher Box Set recently and this is one of those guys around 94-97 that was really good but I'd never heard of.

You got any desire for a Joel Price, Charlie Watts, Brian Gaberman, Mike Rusczyk, Nanda Zipp, or Jon Miner post? Santa Rosa rippers.

I might post some of those guys, like Nanda Zipp and Rusczyk on the next time I revisit the mid 90s. It might be sooner than later. There's some older stuff I want to have for next week.

That's cool Johnny still skates. I read the interview that went with photo and it seemed like he was going to be pro for a bit and then go to school later. I think I liked him just because of the image Real projected.

When I've been going through the old issues of Slap, the contrast between Deluxe and some of the other companies really stands out. Usually it would be some corny World Industries ad on the inside cover right next an arty Real or Stereo ad on the first page that looked so much better. It is a very interesting juxtaposition of images.

My best friend had insomnia last night and I woke up to a text to google this blog (I'm Johnny's girlfriend). Johnny still skates, mostly at the new Logan Square park but he heads up to Wilson once in awhile. iSapien is right, he DJ's a lot around Wicker Park. He's on Facebook and usually posts where he's DJing if anyone's interested in catching his sets.
