Peter Hewitt #5.

Peter gets loopy.

This photo is from the Skate Park of Tampa's 2001 Tampa Pro contest. They had a loop set up with a prize of $1,500 for the first three to make it. Al Partanen and Peter Hewitt were the first two to make it around safely. Jake Brown eventually made it, too. Bob Burnquist did the loop both ways - regular and switch. Lance Mountain and SPoT owner Brian Schaefer gave it a go round, but neither was successful.

Chris Ortiz took the photo.

Holy shit that is gnarly and Brian Schaefer being unsuccessful on that thing is an understatement if you know what I mean.

I know. I didn't feel like going to the painful details as I was in a pinch for time at work today. Hewitt took one for the team on a switch attempt, too.

What's more impressive is that Jake Brown was so loaded and he made the loop. The Big Bro caption said that if this was the Olympics, he wouldn't have been allowed to compete as he never would have passed the drug test.

Where's the lance attempt footage?

I'm not sure. It's probably on YouTube somewhere. There's a clip on the SPoT's YouTube that has all the highlights from the contest, but no Lance attempts. From the Big Brother article, I don't think he tried it many times and didn't come close to making it.
