Steve Caballero #3.

Double Dragon.

Vans kept kicking out new pro models for Cab that reflected the styles of the day as the years rolled along. The Half Cab II is looking very beefy, but they protected Steve's feet for kinked rail boardslides. In retrospect, it's neat that guys like Cab and Lance Mountain took their vertical skills to handrails in the later 1990s.

The photos are by John Old.

Calling that shoe a Half-cab is a bit much...but the Canadian Flag Red Dragons shirt at what I'm guessing is Hastings is a nice touch.

Oops Derby. Disregard!

That first one looks like an Axion shoe. Wonders!

Yeah, it does look like an Axion. I was trying to figure it out. The white, yellow, and blue combo is what does it.

I remember both these ads clearly. It was quite inspiring seeing Cab do this handrail. Derby photo is great too obviously. Did he not do something similar to the handrail at the start of a 411 around this time? Some kind of handrail? Maybe even this one? Or something quite long? At the start of an issue of 411 where they had a few 'outstanding' recent tricks put together with the intro music.

I don't recall specifically, but I know Cab skated other handrails at this time. I think he did some pretty big ones, too.

This is from Jerry Hsu's People I've Known:

Back in the ’90s, when Cab was in his 30s, he used to come skating with us all the time. I am grateful to have been around because this was an incredible era of his skating to witness. One time we were watching Marc Johnson skate a box in a parking lot and he unexpectedly half Cabbed out of a fakie 5-0. I was near Steve and heard him say softly to himself, “Whoa, half me out.”

That Jerry Hsu story is great.
There's a Thrasher 'Reedit' where you can see the trick I was thinking about from 411. Last trick in the video. A railslide on a double kink, but a different rail to the advert. You can also see him ollieing the gap at Derby. Impressive skills for a top tier vert skater.

That was a good collection of Cab's street highlights. I remember some of those tricks, but not others. The footage of the handrail I was thinking of was in there. He had some proper street skills.
